In India the training in psychiatry as well as the psychiatric practice is unquestionably of global standard. But due to several inadequacies of the existing mental health care delivery system the persons with mental illness are most probably the worst sufferers among the ailing folks and human rights violations often takes place in their living condition in varied forms . Keeping this reality in view SEVAC (Sane and Enthusiast Volounteers Association of Calcutta ) came into existence in the year 1991 with vow to cater to the needs of the persons with mental illness putting emphasis on their uninterrupted treatment, rehabilitation and human rights promotion. Since its inception SEVAC has been implementing a multidimensional project in order to bring a change in the existing mental health scenario of the country.
